This new sculpture was created to commemorate the iconic date of August 31 for the city of San Sebastian. It will serve as a recognition and tribute to both the city and the people who favor and help dialogue in conflict resolution. Donostia 31 Kultur Elkartea will be in charge of delivering this recognition annually. This conceptual and figurative work, pretends to be a message of reflection through dialogue, education and values that we always show in this city.

For this, the Bretxa, the “Ground Zero” of the destruction of the city in 1813, has been taken as a reference, as well as the numerical palindrome that forms the date of the ephemeris: 3181813, “a balanced, attractive and even magical number” that has served as a guide in the scales of the sculpture, made of rusty iron.

The piece symbolizes not only the destruction and burning of the city, but also the exact time (1:15 pm) when, according to historians, the great explosion that marked the assault on Donostia took place.
