In his last game, Abel Barriola received his well-deserved tribute and from the San Sebastián City Council he received a sculpture by Iñigo Arístegui.
In the sculpture you can see three circular shapes. On one hand they represent the three mountains that can be seen in San Sebastians bay: Igeldo, Santa Clara Island and Urgull. And on the other hand it represents the retirement from his sport. The “pelotaris” protect their hands from the blows to the ball with wads and tape, which at the end of the game, are removed and all become a ball. Hence the simile of ending his game, in this case, his career.
